Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The course should give an insight in how to plan, carry through and present a self-governed project, and give an insight in how it is to work as a engineer or researcher, in the academia or in the trade or industry.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course the student should be able to:
-individually carry through a minor time limited project
- describe the aim, the reason and the goal for the thesis project and be able to present possible improvements and/or future work in the field.
- have a critically suspension to the possibility of the technology and at an early stage in the project be able to point out possibilities and difficulties in the carry through of the project
- in an informative and with a nice layout describe the different parts of the project with a written technical report
- show the skill that from the performed "State-of-the-Art" or the "State-of-the-Practice" in the field, be able to chose/relate and verify/evaluated the chosen method and/or solution; and
- orally present, both for engineers and non-engineer, the aim, the carry through and the result of the thesis.
Course content
The course is based on planning, carry through and presentation of a project in selected field. The work load should correspond to 20 weeks of full time work. The field and extent of the project is selected in consultation with supervisor and examiner before the project starts. The thesis can be performed in the academia, at an external company or as an own project. If the thesis is performed at an external company a supervisor at the company should be selected as well. The thesis should include a part that deals with the theory in the field, i.e. a literature review, a "State-of-the Art" or "State-of-the-Practice", should be included.
Specific requirements
A Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 ECTS credits, and completed courses corresponding to 15 ECTS credits in computer science at advanced level, 7,5 ECTS credits in mathematics at level G1F or higher and additional 15 ECTS credits in selectable courses, where no more than 15 ECTS credits may be courses at basic level. If the student's bachelor degree includes a large part of mathematics, the requirements in mathematics can be replaced by a relevant course within engineering in addition to other course requirements in engineering.
Examination
Exercise (INL1), 1 credits, marks Pass (G)
Participation (NÄR1), 0.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), 11.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Seminar (SEM1), 2 credits, marks Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655).
