Objectives
The purpose of this course is for the student to acquire basic knowledge of transcultural perspectives in relation to health, care and social welfare.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course the student will be able to:

2 describe and reflect on culture, transcultural perspectives and cultural competence in relation to health, care and social welfare

4 search for and critically relate to literature regarding culture and transcultural perspectives in relation to health, care and social welfare

The course is taught by means of lectures, seminars, field studies, work in groups and individually.
Specific requirements
60 credits in one of following subjects: caring science or public health science or physiotherapy or social work or social care or psychology or sociology or pedagogy or equivalent.
Examination
Written assignment (INL1), 4.5 credits, individual written assignment regarding learning objectives 1-3 and 5-6. Marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
Seminar (SEM1), 3 credits, regarding learning objectives 1-4. Marks Pass (G).
For a Pass with Distinction on the course, a Pass with Distinction is required on INL1. For further details consult the Study Guide.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
