Objectives

The purpose of this course is mainly to give the students an overview perspective of the legal system which regulating and have an impact on a company's internal relations as well as the relations to other companies, organisations, individual persons and the central and local government.

Learning outcomes

After finished course the students must be able to solve not too complicated legal problems, the students should also be able to read and understand legal regulations, case law and other legal texts. Further the students must be able to recognize and express more complicated legal problems related to companies.

Course content

The main contents are the following

- an introduction, here the court system and some central concepts will be presented
- contract law
- sales act and consumer protection
- debts, securities and bankruptcy
- real estate
- company law
- labour law
- torts and insurance
- family law and heritage law
- process- and criminal law

Tuition

The different legal areas will be treated on lectures as well as in smaller groups. The lectures will give s an overview description of the legal area. The focus in the smaller groups is to solve concrete problems and to give the students the opportunity to practise and to identify legal problems.
To each lectures and meeting in smaller groups the students are supposed to be prepared by studying the relevant legal text in the literature respective prepared the given questions.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
