Objectives
The objective of the course is for students to attain knowledge and skills in the area of transcultural perspectives in health, care, and welfare. Other course objectives are for students to improve their competence and to analyse the living conditions of people in various cultural environments.
Learning outcomes
After having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:
1 reflect upon and discuss the concepts human, autonomy, integrity, dignity, health, suffering and caring from a cultural perspective with a focus on the social situations of individuals
2 describe and critically approach research on culture, transcultural perspectives and cultural competence in relation to health and welfare
3 describe intercultural competence in intercultural communication
4 problematise availability in health and welfare systems using transcultural perspectives
5 analyse and reflect upon their own cultural behaviour in order to develop transcultural competence
6 describe and analyse organisations and the roles of professionals when encountering people from different cultures
7 describe caring environments in relevant cultures with an awareness of diseases
8 apply and critically reflect upon transcultural theories and models in their own subject area

Specific requirements
Full Credits from the two first years in DDBNP at Rangsit University and a TOEFL test result, minimum score cBt 173, pBT 500 or iBT 61 or IELTS score 5,0 and no band score below 4,5 or CU-TEP with a minimum of 535.
Examination
Attendance (NÄR1), 0.5 credit point, mandatory attendance for at least 80% of the lectures offered in the course. Marks Pass (G).
Seminar (SEM1), 1.5 credit points, written and oral presentation of an individual task, related to learning objectives 2, 8. Marks Pass (G).
Seminar (SEM2), 1 credit point, oral presentation of a group task, related to learning objectives 1, 3, 5. Marks Pass (G).
Seminar (SEM3), 1 credit point, oral presentation of a group task, related to learning objectives 4, 6, 7. Marks Pass (G).
PM (PM01), 3.5 credit points, written PM/description of project plan with a follow-up seminar, related to all learning objectives. Marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
For the grade Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student must receive a Pass with distinction (VG) for PM01. For more information, see the Study Guide.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
