Call for papers
Engaging with the evolving relationship between human writers and AI, this conference seeks to foster dialogue on the future of academic writing and writing instruction.
The process of academic writing has long been understood as a fundamentally human act of developing and refining ideas, emphasising the author's voice and academic integrity. However, writing pedagogy and practice now stand at a critical juncture due to the rapid evolution of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
This conference seeks to move beyond the simplistic views of AI as merely a new tool to be adopted or a threat to be managed. Instead, it aims to explore how the proliferation of AI tools compels us to reimagine the writing process and the foundations of writing pedagogy in L1 and L2 contexts. In an age where machines can produce text on demand, we need to re-examine what “good writing” means, what skills remain most valuable for our students and how we can effectively assess authentic learning"
We invite proposals for presentations, panels, workshops and other innovative forms of engagement that critically approach the role of AI in the writing process and writing pedagogy. We encourage submissions from educators, researchers and practitioners across all disciplines and levels of instruction.
While we welcome papers on the topics listed below, we encourage proposals on other relevant subjects that align with these broader areas of enquiry.
Theme 1: The human-AI collaborative writing process
- The impact of AI on the writing process and creativity
- Changing roles of the human writer
- AI as the “dialogical other” in the writing process
Theme 2: Reimagining writing pedagogy

- Integrating AI writing tools into academic curriculum
- Exploring pedagogical approaches to teaching critical AI literacy
