Sensor-Based Technology to Improve Dementia Care
We are developing a system that uses sensors and artificial intelligence to help detect and predict emotional changes in people living with dementia. The goal is to make care more proactive and reduce stressful situations for both patients and caregivers.
What we will do:
We will combine data from different sensors, such as different cameras and microphones, to detect signs of emotions like anxiety or aggression. Through this, we hope to decrease the workload on caregivers and help them provide better quality of care for people living with dementia. We will also work closely with caregivers and people living with dementia to design a solution that is easy to use and respects privacy.
Project Goals:
- Develop a sensor-based system that can identify and eventually predict emotional changes in people with dementia.
- Reduce caregiver stress and improve quality of care.
Background:
Caring for people with dementia can be challenging, and many symptoms might require constant monitoring. These situations often cause stress and burnout among caregivers and can lead to a worse quality of care for the people living with dementia. By detecting early signs of emotional change, caregivers can act before problems escalate, improving life for both patients and staff.
