Senior Internet Users – a project for a safer everyday life

The project, which focuses on older individuals aged 65 and above, will engage with three types of stakeholders to explore and map experiences of safety and insecurity online. The ultimate goal is to help reduce feelings of insecurity among older adults in their daily lives, thereby contributing to an improved quality of life.

This is what we will do

The project consists of three sub-studies:

  1. Re-analysis of existing data: Previously collected interview material will be re-examined.
  2. New targeted interviews: Additional interviews will be conducted to gather more focused insights.
  3. Development of a measurement tool: Insights from the first two studies will inform the creation of new items and questionnaire for a large-scale survey.

Objectives

To reduce feelings of insecurity among older adults in everyday life and, in doing so, enhance their overall quality of life.

Collaboration partners

We will collaborate with:

  • Adult education providers to develop new course formats and educational materials.
  • Service organisations to contribute knowledge about end-user experiences with digital services.SeniorNet (adult education), Länsförsäkringar Kronoberg (service organisation).
  • The Police Education Programme at Linnaeus University (expert authority),

Key partners include:

  • Expert authorities to establish new methods for measuring and surveying digital safety.

Why investigate digital safety?

In Sweden, large-scale surveys are conducted annually to assess citizens’ perceptions of safety and insecurity, both at home and in public spaces. However, online safety and digital practices have so far received only limited attention. This project aims to change that.
