Future factories in the Cloud research project
Our vision for the future of manufacturing involves smart connected components that rely heavily on cloud-based intelligence. By moving production complexity to the cloud, we can increase flexibility and enable new business models where production facilities can be accessed as cloud services. This approach offers numerous benefits, such as cost reduction, energy efficiency, and innovation opportunities. However, there are also challenges associated with safety-relevant systems, particularly in handling large amounts of data and ensuring efficient and predictable computation and communication. Our project, FiC, aims to provide generic solutions for future factories in the cloud by developing techniques and tools for safe and secure communication, efficient resource sharing, and handling big data. Real usage scenarios will be used to demonstrate and evaluate the project's results in industrial contexts.
