On June 2, IVA published its 2026 list, which highlights promising research projects with the potential to benefit society. The MDU project PROVIDENT is included on this year’s list.

IVA’s List for Research Impact works to strengthen Sweden’s ability to translate academic research in the technical sciences into innovation, societal benefit and competitiveness. The research projects highlighted should have significant potential to contribute to solutions for key societal challenges through commercialisation, new businesses and practical application.

This year’s list, published on June 2, 2026, includes the MDU project PROVIDENT.

Connected vehicles require safe and predictable communication, but existing approaches fall short. PROVIDENT delivers techniques, a commercialized toolchain and prototypes that ensure reliability, enabling safer operation and efficient automation, says Saad Mubeen, Project Manager and Professor at MDU.

Reduced downtime and improved safety

PROVIDENT meets an urgent industry need for predictable communication in connected industrial vehicles such as truck‑mounted cranes and automated construction machines. Today’s technologies and development techniques create bottlenecks that limit automation, remote operation, and safety. The project delivers novel techniques, a commercialized toolchain, and industrially validated prototypes to ensure such communication. This enables safe teleoperation and coordination of these vehicles on industrial sites. As a result, downtime is reduced, safety is improved, and development cycles are shortened for industrial vehicle manufacturers and automation industries.

Being included in IVA’s 2026 List highlights the innovative nature and industrial relevance of the work and results achieved in the PROVIDENT project. This means a great deal to me and the team. It shows that our research is both scientifically strong and valuable for industry. Increased visibility via IVA's List is expected to attract new collaborations, support commercialization, and help scale the results toward broader industrial and societal impact, says Saad Mubeen.
