MDU brings Europe and India together around sustainable innovation and global impact

Over three days, researchers, students, and representatives from academia, industry, the public sector, and civil society from Sweden, Europe, and India will come together to explore how collaboration can contribute to solving global societal challenges.

Just days after India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Sweden and the Nordic region for discussions on innovation, trade, and strengthened cooperation between India and Europe, Mälardalen University will host the international event Global Impact Forum & SUNRISE Summit.

Bring together two international initiatives

Over three days, researchers, students, and representatives from academia, industry, the public sector, and civil society from Sweden, Europe, and India will come together to explore how collaboration can contribute to solving global societal challenges.

The event brings together two international initiatives: the European university alliance SUNRISE Alliance and MDU’s recurring Global Impact Forum. Together, they create an international meeting place for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and co-creation, with sustainability as a common denominator. The conference features keynote talks, roundtable discussions, student projects, showcase sessions, and workshops where theory meets practice and new collaborations can emerge.

Particular focus is placed on quadruple helix collaboration

The programme highlights themes such as sustainable innovation, AI and human–technology relations, democracy and societal development, as well as social and organisational innovation. A particular focus is placed on quadruple helix collaboration, where academia, industry, the public sector, and civil society work together to develop solutions for the future.

International keynotes and MDU’s own research environments

Among the speakers are Dougald Hine, social thinker, writer, and speaker, Uday Salunkhe, Group Director of WeSchool, Sonali Pednekar, historian and academic leader, Annika Wäppling Korzinek, Head of the European Commission Representation in Sweden, and Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.

The event will also showcase several of MDU’s own initiatives and research environments, including Center for Welfare Change, The “Farm” Living Lab, Mälardalen University Automation Research Center (MARC), and MDU Solar Team.

The ambition of Global Impact Forum & SUNRISE Summit is to create a meeting place where different perspectives and competences can connect to create real societal impact, both locally and globally.

The event will take place at the Västerås campus on 19–21 May. The programme May 20-21 will be livestreamed.
