Strong demand for MDU

When applications for autumn university programmes closed on 15 April, it was clear that MDU continues to attract a large number of students. Compared with the previous year, the number of applicants has increased by 12 percent.

For MDU’s 48 undergraduate programmes, 26 postgraduate programmes and 634 courses, the university has received 34,448 applications for the autumn term 2026. This compares with 30,779 applicants the previous year, representing an increase of 12 per cent.

“It is very encouraging to see continued strong demand for MDU. The increase shows that our programmes are attractive and in demand, both in professions where there is a significant societal need and in areas such as sustainable development and leadership,” says Susan Sahlberg, Head of Student Administration at MDU.

First-cycle level programmes with the highest number of applicants

Figures in brackets refer to the autumn semester 2025.

1. Bachelor programme in Human Resource Studies (new programme ht26): 2645, of which 608 selected it as their first choice.
2. Nursing programme Västerås: 2618 (2250) of which 377 (371) selected it as their first choice.
3. Nursing programme Eskilstuna: 2414 (2020) of which 378 (335) selected it as their first choice.

Advanced programmes with the highest number of applicants

1. Programme in Special Educational Needs: 412 (515) of which 351 (458) selected it as their first choice.
2. Master’s Programme in Politics and Sustainable Societies (new programme ht26): 274 of which 52 selected it as their first choice.
3. Programme in Special Needs Training: 164 (119) of which 143 (131) selected it as their first choice.

Courses with the highest number of applicants

All standalone courses are distance-learning courses worth 7.5HP (Figures in brackets refer to the autumn semester 2025).

Admission results released on 10 July

All applicants will receive their admission results on 10 July and have until 20 July to accept their place.
