Honorary Doctors 2026

Ann-Sofie Forsmark and Azad Najar

Ann-Sofie Forsmark and Azad Najar have been nominated for honorary doctorates at Mälardalen University.

By nominating Ann-Sofie Forsmark for an honorary doctorate, MDU wishes to recognise her extensive work in spreading research-based knowledge about a sustainable and health-promoting working life. Through lectures, workshops, counselling and training, as well as her writing, the Health for Wealth podcast and a strong presence on social media, she reaches both individuals and leaders in large organisations.

Azad Najar is the founder of the medical technology company Scandinavian Real Heart AB and has spent many years developing the world's first artificial four-chamber heart – Realheart. The innovation mimics the anatomy and function of the human heart and creates a pulsating blood flow, which represents a potential breakthrough for people with severe heart failure.

The title of honorary doctor is conferred on a person who has an important role for MDU and who has a clear link to our research and education or who has in other ways made outstanding contributions in one of our organisational areas.
