MDU students create exciting solutions for real world problems

Ten teams of master’s students in the master’s programme in Innovation and Design within the course Project Methodology in Innovation and Design have just finished innovative projects that solve real problems in society and industry. These projects, guided by teachers Adesuwa Omorede, Anders Wikström, and Marcus Bjelkemyr show how students are turning creative ideas into practical solutions.
Ever wondered how architects could use AI? Magno Rizzi worked with Tengbom to create a guide that helps architects use AI tools in their daily work. Meanwhile, Akram Belkacem and Ehisuoria Azugbene tackled a different challenge: making solar power work better in Sweden's dark winters. Their project with Piffl resulted in a smart solar system that performs well even in low-light conditions.
Some students focused on making public services better. Shirin Namdar designed workshops to help municipality workers use AI tools, making their work easier and more efficient. In another project, Rani Saad Algram Al-Othman created a way for Eskilstuna municipality to work better with PropTech start-ups, helping this sector become more innovative.
Smarter manufacturing
Together with MITC, Ebin Ephrem Elavarhingal and Steven Ylanan built a platform called MATCH that helps small Swedish companies find and use digital tools. At Volvo Construction Equipment, Milad Jalalvand and Ramak Amyari-Khamneh developed a framework that focuses on improving new product development through collaborative efforts.
Ana Rhodes Oliva and Manuel Rodríguez Sicilia created a design for an eco-friendly storage system for Piffl that is both practical and good for the environment. The model includes using recycled materials and smart design to make storage boxes that are built to last.
Ana Gabriela Carlos Andrade Uzeda Accioly worked on something completely different – she wrote a helpful guide that makes it easier for smaller companies to build their own AI RAG systems. Meanwhile, Fauzia Esimu Namugerwa and Egzon Ajeti made it easier for students to find company projects by improving the ByMatching platform. Zuzanna Napiórkowska-Yousif and Anna Hipsz-Ferreira put their creative minds together to develop a clever marketing strategy for SizeWall’s health division, helping the company reach more people who could benefit from their services.
Meet the students
Want to see these amazing projects yourself? Visit the Entrance Hall at Eskilstuna Campus between January 15–21, 09.00 to 12.00 where all project posters will be on display. The students are happy to share more about their work.
These projects show how MDU students are ready to solve tomorrow's challenges today. They've not only co-created with real companies and organizations but have also shown that innovative ideas can become practical solutions that make our world better
