“We are so incredibly happy that after several years of hard work we have reached the finish line with the flag at the top. To get a chance to start up both a completely unique master's programme in chamber opera and a master's programme in chamber music at Västerås Castle, in this national and international context. We see this as something really positive at a time when the place of culture and music in society is far from obvious”, says Lena Hellström-Färnlöf, artistic director at MOMDU.
“This is very positive and gratifying news. There is a determined and solid work behind this state of affairs at an advanced level and I thank and congratulate everyone who has worked hard to make this possible. This is a sign of strength for Mälardalen University and its artistic direction," says Vice-Chancellor Martin Hellström.
The Master's programmes in Western Art Music and Opera with specialisations in Chamber Music and Chamber Opera will start in the autumn semester of 2024. Registration opens in December 2023 and more information will be published on mdu.se as the date approaches.
“The fact that our university, where education and research are largely based on science, chooses to invest in and make visible music that rests on an artistic basis, is an important marker that we are so proud of”, says Staffan Sandström, Head of Division at MOMDU, Mälardalen University.
