The car park in Västerås will close on 31 October
The large parking area in front of the Student Union building at the Västerås campus will be closed off on 31 October and will not be replaced with another parking space or reopen again as car park.
Västerås city is growing rapidly and is developing into a major city. Space is therefore becoming increasingly attractive and it is no longer justifiable to use large, centrally located areas as car parks. Of the parking spaces around MDU in Västerås, some are owned by the municipality and some by Hemsö, a real estate company. Västerås City’s long-term plan to become a sustainable, major city involves densifying and leasing land for buildings on central areas. This is also what will happen with the car park near MDU, where Hemsö, the property owner, intends to build an upper-secondary school and housing on the area.
MDU has unfortunately no say in this matter and there is also no other land available nearby that MDU can rent for parking. For everyone, students, employees and visitors at MDU to be able to manage in the future with fewer parking spaces, we encourage people to use public transport, cycle or walk to the campus instead.
