Robotik i industrin.

Technologies such as 3D printing, AR/VR, Digital Twins, Big Data and the Industrial Internet of Things for instance are gathered together under the Industry 4.0 concept and are a hot topic for any industrial company. Currently Mälardalen University is offering a unique and new digital introductory course in the field that will provide you with extensive knowledge of the possibilities using the new technologies.

“With greater knowledge of Industry 4.0, you will enhance people’s understanding, show the benefits of and increase the willingness to invest in new technologies in industry. The ability to implement and apply the new technologies are also crucial for manufacturing companies to try to stay competitive,” says Jessica Bruch, Professor of Production Systems at Mälardalen University.

Industry 4.0 is not just about individual technologies but encompasses a wide spectrum of different technologies and innovations that need to be implemented in parallel with organisational changes. It provides a variety of possibilities such as more efficient production, shorter lead times and higher quality.

“Industry 4.0 includes the possibility of simulating production chains, data transfer between new and older systems and the use of artificial intelligence for instance. It creates many opportunities for manufacturing companies and the development of their business model and service offering,” says Jessica Bruch.

The course is open to everyone

The course “Introduction to Industry 4.0” is unique in Sweden today and is offered through Mälardalen University's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The MOOC courses are open to everyone, regardless of background or professional category, and do not require any prior knowledge. Students register to the course and study it at their own pace and when it suits them.

“We already have several courses for professionals in the field. In this way, we make knowledge accessible to more people,” says Jessica Bruch, Professor of Production Systems.

The MOOC course does not give you any academic credits but is a qualifying course for three higher education courses at MDH: Internet of Things for the manufacturing industry External link., Simulation of production systems,  External link.Big data & cloud computing for industrial applications External link..
