School of Health, Care and Social Welfare

At the School of Health, Care and Social Welfare – Akademin för hälsa, vård och välfärd (HVV) we educate future Nurses, Public Health Experts, Social Workers, Behavioural Scientists and Physiotherapists. The School also conducts research in health and welfare.

About ​230 people work at the School and around 3 000 students are studying the following subjects:

The School also conducts research in health and welfare. Most of the research is conducted in collaboration with other research specialisations at MDU but also at regional, national and international level. Doctoral programmes focus on the health and welfare area and specifically on the five subjects work life studies, public health, physiotherapy, social work and health sciences.

The School hosts the following research specialisations:

Health and welfare doctoral education includes five subjects: Caring Sciences, Public Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Work Life Studies.

The doctoral students are part of a large, innovative and multidisciplinary study community where they work with supervisors from several subjects. Currently, around 25–30 doctoral students are studying a variety of health and welfare challenges at the individual, group, organisational and societal level.

The School of Health, Care and Social Welfare works hard to ensure that international perspectives are included in all our courses and study programmes as well as research. Through internationalisation it is hoped that our students and our employees will adopt a wider international understanding. Our ambition is to develop international cooperation in education as well as research.
