Companies met MDU students
This year's round of the Thesis and degree project days was combined with the Mälardalen Student Union fair Högvarv. Around 80 exhibitors formed a large arena to offer several interfaces between employers and students.
In parallel with the labour market fair, there was also a separate programme of inspirational lectures, alumni stories, company pitches, CV training and interview techniques. The event was arranged on both the Västerås and Eskilstuna campuses.
The students were given a unique opportunity to learn and meet companies and organisations. They could get an idea of what types of assignments are available and maybe even start working with the contacts they made,
says Susanne Fronnå, Project Manager, Thesis and Degree Project Days.
These events also gave employers the opportunity to look for new skills, energy and drive for their business, as they got to meet potential employees and students for degree projects or placements.
53 degree projects in the advertising portal
I would like to take this opportunity to promote our advertising portal. It contains several of the degree projects that were presented during the fair. Currently, there are 53 available suggestions,
says Susanne Fronnå.
On MDU's advertising portal, employers can post their job vacancies, placements, project assignments or suggestions for thesis subjects and degree projects.
The Sparbanken Rekarne Development Scholarship
During the Thesis and degree project day in collaboration with the Högvarv fair in Eskilstuna, the winner of the Sparbanken Rekarne’s development scholarship was announced. We wish to congratulate student Marta Hansson on the Public Health Sciences Programme who won a scholarship worth SEK 20,000.
The justification for the decision
The thesis ”Föreningsidrott for ökad security” (Sports clubs for increased security) is a degree project in Public Health Sciences at Mälardalen University. The purpose of the qualitative study is to describe different actors' viewpoints on the security-creating function of club sports in society.
The study has an exciting approach and relates to a current topic from both a scientific and practical perspective. It concerns social sustainability and The UN’s Global Goals and the 2023 Agenda and is in line with Mälardalen University's vision that we can shape a sustainable future together. The student demonstrates good academic quality and their own drive in the development of knowledge about an important issue, which is also based on the student's own experiences. The study, although based on a small number of interviews, presents several conclusions. One conclusion highlights that the main contribution of club sports to help create security is the long-term efforts which means that more people will have access to and be included in club sports activities. Through this, the individual's sense of coherence is strengthened and they are given greater access to general resources. The study points out that it is essential that sports clubs are located in socio-economic disadvantaged areas. This is to reduce inequalities in healthcare and create conditions to increase security in the area. In addition, the study is in line with Sparbanken Rekarne's efforts to foster security in Eskilstuna municipality and the need for new knowledge that will help create a safe society.
